At the top of La Sella Residence the Sakya Foundation, a non-profit organisation linked to the Sakya Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, found the ideal place to build its monastery which was opened in 2004.
It is one of the largest Buddhist centres in Europe and the largest in Spain. Surrounded by nature and with magnificent views of the Mediterranean and the Montgó natural park, the monastery offers modern and spacious facilities where formations, meditations, retreats and events are organised. They also include rooms to accommodate up to 60 people.
Since 2013 it has been run by the Lama Rinchen Gyaltsen, born in 1972 in Uruguay of Spanish parents. In 1980 he emigrated with them to the United States and in 1993 the teachings of the Buddha definitively captured his interest. From 2003 to 2012, Lama Rinchen travelled through India, Nepal and Tibet. He lived in various monasteries and received teachings and initiations from great masters such as H.H. the Dalai Lama.
In 2014, Lama Rinchen founded Paramita Institute, an online platform offering the fundamental teachings of Tibetan Sakya Buddhism free of charge. His profound studies of Buddhism and his great sense of humour make him a great teacher.
