Finally, Denia´s gastronomic delights have been recognised in UNESCO creative city listings. On the 11 December 2015, the capital of the Marina Alta region, Costa Blanca North, achieved this eagerly wanted title, which initially is given for four years, relaunching its tradition and culinary innovation and putting this Mediterranean city of the Northern Costa Blanca on the world map of gastronomic culture. Also Burgos obtained this award, which presently only eight cities in the world can boast of.
Denia´s candidacy was not only based on its rich Mediterranean diet but on other projects, so the recovery of all abandoned farm land, the sea and promotion those more unknown species together with traditional fishing, and the rice and recovery of those products which form part of the cultural heritage of the Marina Alta region.
The restaurateurs and hoteliers of Denia are excited, but they are also aware that the real work has started now.
