Denia and its population 2024
According to data from the 2024 Population Census, the demographic growth of Denia is almost entirely due to the arrival of the foreign population. The native Dianense population has only 18 more people than a year ago. In total there are 1,124 more people than in January 2023, reaching 49,047 official people.
Where do foreign people come from?
The largest foreign population in the municipality is the Colombian, which also experienced another spectacular growth during these twelve months: they have crossed the barrier of 2,000 inhabitants (now there are 2,090) when twelve months ago there were barely 1,600. No other country grows more.
It was throughout 2022 when Colombia ousted the United Kingdom as the majority nationality in the capital of the Marina Alta. The British, on the other hand, are at a stalemate: they are now even two less than a year ago, dropping to 1,432. Germany occupies third place (it once also topped this classification) and has increased slightly in the last year, reaching 1,400.
The fourth nationality is Ukraine, with 1,155. Its growth occurred throughout 2022 when the population of this origin multiplied as a result of the invasion of Russia. Now that increase is no longer so spectacular, although in just twelve months 122 more people have come from that nation at war.
The top 10 origins are completed by Romania (whose group is made up of exactly the same people as a year ago), Russia, France (both nations experience very moderate increases), Italy (which, however, has a more notable increase), the Netherlands and Morocco. With the exception of this last nation and Colombia, the rest of these top ten positions are occupied by European countries.
Of course, among those nationalities that have more than one hundred representatives in Dénia there are already more diverse places, including Asians such as China and India or Central Americans, such as Cuba and the United States.
Curiosities
Throughout 2023, people from Bangladesh, Cape Verde or Comoros who were not here last year settled. And on the other hand, neighbors from Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uganda or Burundi who previously resided no longer appear in the statistics. Finally, there are two people who are simply citizens of the world: they declare themselves stateless.
Denia – a climate conducive to reaching the centenary
The average age between 45 and 60 years is around the ranges where the most inhabitants are located. And people aged 56 are the most numerous, a total of 863, while babies aged 0 to 1 are only counted at 205.
The centenarians draw attention: a total of 16 are one hundred or more years old. A 107-year-old neighbor stands out. Two other people, in this case a man and a woman, are 104 years old.
