Denia Jazz Festival August 2023
The 9th edition of Denia Jazz Festival starts with the musician Enric Peidro as director of the event.
August 3- Thomas Kretzchmar Quartet
The festival will begin with the French violinist Thomas Kretzschmar with his quartet. The artist from Nîmes has collaborated with figures such as Stochelo Rosenberg, Bireli Lagrène, Angolo Debarre, Humberto Ríos and Tchavolo Schmitt and his projection is international.
August 10- Tanja Filipovic
On the second night you can enjoy the voice of the Serbian singer living in Ganz (Austria) Tanja Filipovic, supported by the trio of musicians who usually accompany him in his performances. At only 23 years old, critics have highlighted the virtuosity of his voice, his vocal technique and the natural capacity for improvisation.
August 17- International Classic Jazz All Stars
The halfway point of the festival will be dedicated to American musician/musician and composer George Gerswhin. The International Classic Jazz All Stars, led by saxophonist Enric Peidro, will pay tribute to the renowned musician with 'A night with George Gerswhin'. This proposal is genuine of the festival and has the intention of remembering the great names of jazz music, as was done last year with the tribute to Duke Ellington.
In the International Classic Jazz All Stars we find musicians with great professional careers such as the Danish drummer Martin Andersen, the Catalan double bassist Queralt Camps, the French trombonist Samuel Marthé, the British trumpeter Paul Evans or the Valencian vibraphonist Arturo Serra.
August 24- Judith Owen & Her Gentlemen Callers
The festival will be closed by the band Judith Owen & Her Gentlemen Callers, who are on a European tour. Residents in New Orleans (United States), their music is greatly influenced by vocalists such as Peggy Lee, Pearl Bailey, Blossom Dearie, Julie London or Dinah Washington. In addition, its scenery harkens back to the great productions of Broadway musicals and shows, with a noir touch. The singer, of Welsh origin, offers a repertoire that mixes jazz, swing and blues, which has led her to collaborate with figures from the world of jazz such as Jason Marsalis, Nicholas Payton or Donald Harrison, among others.
Among the musicians in his band (Her Gentlemen Callers), Australian guitarist Dave Bleckhorn stands out.
Enjoy good music in the pleasant atmosphere of the Torrequemada Gardens in Denia!
